I use Avira with zero problems... except the updating runs slow for some odd reason... otherwise it works great and also has the highest virus detection rate of any anti-virus out there

Norton expiring, AVS a good alternative?

My Norton expires in 5 days, and I´m wondering if it´s worth to pay another year.

I´ve been quite happy with Norton antivirus and Firewall. Do I get about the same if I start using AVS? Is it enough working alone or do I need to start using Windows Defender or other additional software as well?

    Hello Kari,

You get great antivirus protection from Avast. However, it will not hurt to additionally run anti-malware programs like Windows Defender or Malwarebytes as well. You just do not want to run or install more than one antivirus program.

    Hope this helps,
    Shawn

    Thanks, Brink!

Just what I was asking. With Norton I´ve been used to let it do the job alone. No other mal/spyware software, no Defender. I just didn´t know what to do if I change to Avast.

Thanks, I think I´ll try it.

Brink, I just installed Avast and was looking at the Control Panel and noticed that Windows Defender is running! I didn't even know this existed on the Win 7 platform. I was advised by 7 to go get an anti-virus and I don't think anybody is simply running Windows Defender by itself.

What do you suggest I do?

    Hello DesertJedi,

Windows Defender is just a anti-malware (ex: spyware) type program, and is not a antivirus (ex: trojans, worms, etc....) program. I would strongly recommend that everyone have only one antivirus program installed, and as many anti-malware programs that they like. For example, Windows Defender, Malwarebytes, Spybot S&D, and SUPERAntiSpyware.

    Hope this helps,
    Shawn
