I left my long long time favorite Avast after this new upgrade. Just too many quirks on my machine, i.e. when I first upgraded on reboot my machine would not recognize my password (!!!), had to do a hard shut down. When it rebooted all was well so laughed it off. (but did recheck my password change c.d.) Yesterday early when I turned on my machine, it updated as usual but said it needed another whole core upgrade too. Thought that was funny to say the least, when it finished (had to unchoose google again if I remember right, and I hate being coerced about/with Google Chrome), on reboot it took forever. And ever. And ever. When I finally made to my desktop Avast said it needed another core update. At that point good ole Revo came to my rescue and eliminated an old trusted friend from my machine. I'm now taking Comodo Free for a test drive and so far all seems well.
I have not hit the "update program" button yet. I normally wait for a mod update or two before going to a new version release of any application.
I also do not install all scannning options for any Malware product. Files system, Network, Behavior, and Script are the only sheilds I run Real-time on Avast. The other sheilds are redundant, imo.
I do not opt-in for minute-to-minute updates, twice a day is frequent enough, or Reputation services (Cloud Services). Also in settings, I did establish an Account, but do not participate in Community. These options, imo, are unneccesary and place a drag on what Avast is built to do - protect against Malware.
If you were happy with Avast 7, can you uninstall avast 8 (use Control Panel & the Avast uninstall app) and re-install avast 7? This of course implies that you have a full install download pkg of Avast 7, not a web shim install.
There is a new program version 8.0.1483 that may fix your issue.
