Yes that is a 'waker upper' LOL. When I first installed it was telling me 3 times a day that it had updated the definitions. Couldn't take it anymore. Took me a bit to figure out where to turn it off. :b

Yes I might turn it off myself actually as it gets a bit annoying after a while. My McAfee's loud "bong" on my other OS's is no better!

I only recently installed the home free edition - and I like it.

Was using AVG8 free until a programming error in it's updates sent it CRAZY and it ID'ed every file on the PC as a virus - including itself! One crazy damn momma ..

Not the best GUI, but the only AV that supports skins and the Vista one is OK for me.

Had to turn voice on because it stops at every problem it finds during scan, so if you leave it and come back, scan may have stopped. So, now hear voice problem. Don't want to sit at my PC just looking at the scanning! Should just list all problems after scan.

Will continue to use this though - and through this was able to pick up three anti-malware scanners that cleaned up a problem none else could.

    1. Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware (Particularly good.)
    2. SUPERAntiSpyware Free Edition
    3. RogueRemover FREE

***This is up to you, but like any Phishling checker will slow your browsing down while it has to connect to a third party site and check a list of known problem sites.

I do no online banking or secure transactions, so turn these off in my browsers as well. The only Phishing I had came in an email and took me to the 'Bendigo Bank' - which as it happens, I'm not a customer. I informed the bank, but it's hush, hush, as they don't want to scare real customers.

I tracked the email from Perth to Sydney to Canberra, to Melbourne to Hong Kong and finally to Russian and a pub which i was able to obtain tourist photo's of. It had about 300 rooms, casino, internet room and international money changing facility. All good stuff for the Russian mob! This was out of Telstra/BigPond wireless at the time.

So, they don't frighten me - just don't slow me down..

Network Shield: added a component for blocking of malware URLs

The Australian Government is trying to implement a ... well i don't know what it is .. kiddie p.o.r.n filter, blocker or something that has to check an external list of 10,000 sites whenever you try to go to any page on the Net - so we are about to slow to a crawl - lest than dial-up speed.

Will it stop anything - NO - those nastie sites are not public and chat rooms appear to be where predators are.

    Hello graham.lv.

You may want to have a look at this thread; as I don't believe it's been resolved.

LOL, you can change the Sound settings for Avast through the Windows 7 Sound settings to nothing or something different for that sound event if you would like to.
