    Hello Joe,

I have no problems with running MSE and Avast at the same time on my system. :)
Same here. Using both at the same time with no issues. :)

Why would you want two av programs active at the same time?

    Hi Nick,

MSE is more if a anti-malware program with antivirus protection to replace Windows Defender, while Avast is a more dedicated antivirus program. That, and better protection since no one scanner can catch everything. MSE and Avast have been certified to work together as well.

Yeah, they are supposed to be able to work without problems, side by side. You can read a small mention here from a few months ago.

erm, MSE is a full AV and anti malware client. It can stand up against threats pretty well on its own.

    Quote from Microsoft's MSE site:

Microsoft Security Essentials provides real-time protection for your home PC that guards against viruses, spyware, and other malicious software.

thanks all , ok i have downloaded and used the Avast alongside security essentials but do you not find that even for a quick scan Avast takes a very long time and security essentials only takes a few minutes as does malwarebytes

Even a full scan with 5 is very fast on my machine. I would say a lot faster than version 4- ever was.
