sad thing is were both in our 30's

sad thing he is having fun with this.

it will be ok where now using old hard drive- it had episode of stargate on it - now vista and we will use it to get the data off - then never use it again
It's not necessary to be that extreme. Once you do what you need to do, scan his system completely with his antivirus and all is well. No big deal. His antivirus should prevent anything infected from being copied anyway.

Sorry yes it is - i have had 3 generations of windows with this - it is tricky - doesn't scan with any anti virus installed or online - tried them all ( the usb has been sent to avast) - the only reason i know it is a infection it by common behaviour over 3 computers. ( all different makes)

my friend has 3 internal one external hard drive. Plus we have a old hard drive (well he has every hard drive he ever owned) and a copy of windows vista retail.

My friend is supper happy about this - I wouldn't let him do it unless we back up everything on his system and was willing to do windows back up on dvd - even though he reckon it would take 150-200 dvd disks. (this is a rough guess with the amount of data)

so safer to using a extra hard drive and taking the time to set it up then
    infecting an existing system.

the hard drive has vista now installed. Now installing drivers that are needed.

After dinner we will work through a sequence of the disk that i think are not likely to be infected to the fully infected disks.

    all fun

    just told dinner time
I'm sorry...but you aren't going to convince me that you have an infection on those disks that no antivirus can detect or remove. If it's been around as long as you say it has, it would be known. You have some other issue.
