Do I have a spyware or a virus?

I have norton antivirus 2010 and it detected some virus today and it deleted it, but every 5 minutes or so, I get internet explorer popups with annoying ads, and I'm using firefox. I don't know what's wrong but this is getting ridiculous.

For example: "Win 100$ with this survey"

    I haven't installed anything.

Try Search and Destroy at: The home of Spybot-S&D!
    or
    MalwareBytes at: Malwarebytes.org

They are both great at getting rid of Spyware or Malware.

I have never liked Norton because of this. Every version has failed this type of infection.

It sounds like you have spyware. Run windows defender and Norton to see if anything is picked up.

In addition you can take the advice of the prior poster.

If you are using Internet Explorer 8, go to Tools and Pop-Up Blocker. Make sure it is turned on. That should solve most of your problems.

Firefox has a popup blocker,, but you also need,,,,,

    Adblock Plus
    NoScript

You aren't going to be able to block every popup/popunder but this will catch the majotiy of them.

In addition,, run Malwarebytes and Spybot S&D as suggested above.
also run an online scanner such as ,,, Windows Live Safety Scanner
    or ESET Online Scanner

To be sure I would run all 4 of those, one after the other.
No A/V or Anti-malware suite is going to catch 100% of everything. none of them.
So you will occasionally want to run a barrage of scanners, just to be sure.

The popups come out of no where lets say I have every web browser closed, and then a popup pops out out of no where..

You have spyware you have to get rid of it or it will haunt you. Use some of the remedied indicated above. It is not a big deal if you get rid of it, and it should be fairly easy.
