as always the best defense against virus and attack is to keep your a/v software and firewalls up dated and to practice safe browsing.

Microsoft readies emergency IE patch to counter public exploits Time: 10:50 EST/15:50 GMT | News Source: All About Microsoft | Posted By: Kenneth van SurksumMicrosoft has started dropping broad hints that an emergency patch for Internet Explorer will be released very soon to counter targeted attacks and the publication of exploit code for a “browse and you’re owned” vulnerability in its flagship Web browser.

The out-of-band update will be released once the company is satisfied that it has been properly tested against all affected versions of Windows. This could happen as early as this weekend.

Yeah, that's what the scare was. Her sister-in-law (my aunt) got all of the details wrong, claiming it was a new xp os problem, and emailed everyone about it. I got my mom calmed down... Usually, she's pretty good about ignoring the emails from my aunt, but she got a bad worm a few years ago and almost lost a decade's worth of business records, so she is skittish about things like this.

We've gotta get my aunt a new hobby. All she does all day is read stories from the crazy half of the web, and then forward them to everyone she knows. I get about 50 emails from her every single day! And she'll open every attachment and forward any infected email she gets sent... she's a one-woman online Typhoid Mary!
