    Avast 5 officially released

Just downloaded Avast 5 and downloaded the latest definitions. Went about to test and see how good the new version is.

Had a directory with 8 fresh new viri waiting to see the results.

Out of 8 it only detected 2

Removed Avast 5 and installed Kaspersky 2010 with full definitions.

Kaspersky detected 6 out of 8

Will leave Kaspersky on for a while.

It would be interesting if you did the same test with MSE.

GeorgeB: do you have a-squared ?
then it would be interesting to see how it performs on the same viruses.

Not very scientific of a test with only 8 samples. AV-Comparatives in one test used 23,000 virus files and I think the highest found rate was 13,000. It just depends on which test virus you are using.

I have it and notice the following things:

--- there are major updates and various scanning modes
---- the Behaviour shield and the anti-rootkit are not entirely completed

    MSE found 5
