going to try it when my kaspersky runs out
using the free version on x64 windows 7 right now without a hitch and using very little memory.
biggest prob i had with avast 4.8 was the horrible UI. the new 5.0 UI is much more user friendly and has much more options to customize what you want.
Working OK for me (upgraded from version 4.8). Problems can occur if you are installing on a system that previously had a different AV program. In these cases, you need to completely uninstall your existing AV using the tool that should be available on the appropriate AV vendor's website. Once you have done that, you should be able to install Avast! without problems.
Hallo hotbowler, you can download the Avast uninsall utilility from here
avast! - Download Free Trial Versions of Antivirus Software
You have to run it in safe mode you can enter safe mode by repeatedly tapping F8 during startup.

It worked. Thanks. Not sure why Avast would not work. One of the few times I have had that kind of trouble. But its all cleaned up now.
