    How to I restrict a user from access to partitions?


    I have 8 partitions on my computer and I have a roomate now and he needs to use my computer, but i want to restrict access so he can only use the C drive not the other partitions that I have

    any help appreciated

    Hi and welcome

    there are several ways

    Most secure, use pgp and encrypt.
    or you can make him a member of a group that cant even view the other partitions.
    Is he an admin?

    Are you?

    I am an admin
    he is a standard user

    I'm good with computers so if someone could explain the steps that would be great
    I just haven't ever had to share my computer before so I have never taken the time to learn how to do these type of restrictions.

    I want it so a popup stops him when he attempts to use any of my extra partitions
    or so that those extra partitions are hidden either will work I just dont want him to use them or have access.

    Right-click on any partition > Properties > Security > Advance... > Add > type in the roommates username in the the tall text box > Full Control DENY; Ok Ok Ok.

    Will this deny popups UAC when he tries to open partition?

    /Ok it seems that I done somethink wrong. Now I cant open anything and I have admin rights. I get error that I dont have rights, but when I look at Properties -> Security, there's Admins group. What I did wrong?

    You set Users or Authenticated Users to DENY?

    Well...remove DENY permissions from Users and do not ever set Users or Authenticated Users or anything group as DENY. Set individual user accounts only.

    Done that. But it looks like not every folder on that partition changed its permissions. I from my previous tries, reinstalling Windows wont help
