Windows 7: SAL.xls.exe virus and resulting damage

04 Feb 2010   #21

I have read that Dr Web's Cureit has a good track record in deleting and repairing damage done by viruts.

If you want to create a list of all hidden exe files:
Open an admin cmd

Type or c+p " cd c:\ " to change directory. (no quotes)

Then c+p:
DIR /S /B /AH:-D *.exe > C:\myfileslist.txt - hit enter.

Which should create a list in C of all hidden exes. If no files are found then a "file not found" will pop up.

If the list is created then you can use the list to navigate to where the hidden exes are then open a cmd there and unhide the exe.

ATTRIB -S -H exename.exe

Replace exename with the name of the hidden exe that you want to unhide.

Help with Virus Damage
Hi Recently a virus managed to get onto my computer. My anti virus detected and stoped it, but not before it did some damage. I quickly deleted the virus, which may not have been the best move, since I now don't know which virus it was. While I believe I've gotten rid of the virus and all...
