    Is this enough?

I am currently running firefox 3.5.8, adblock plus, no-script, and MSE on a windows 7 pro install.

Should I be safe with the configuration? If not what do you suggest I get.

Because I was eyeing avast's web security software, but I do not know if it will be worth the cost in money and hogged system resources. Plus I have my confidence in MSE, its just I dont know what exactly it protects me from.

Since I am a very avid gamer its important my security suit doesn't affect my gameplay, but I really don't want to get hacked.

Hallo Reluttr, If you are happy with MSE i would stick with it.
It is highly recommended by many of our reputiable members.

The only other thing you may wish to consider is an on demand scanner such as Malwarebytes free.

Just update it manually every couple of days & run a quick scan

Windows firewall plus my routers firewall should protect me against most hackers and all other attacks, right?

Because I knew about how certain websites can hijack your pc, and a friend recommended no-script. Which basically prevents all javascript from running unless I allow it, thus stopping the hijack threat...unless I download an infected file "which MSE should catch".

But what if I do accadently allow a mallicious script to run, shouldent a combination of MSE, windows firewall, my routers firewall, and defender stop it? Mostly I'm worried about someone getting into my PC through my internet connection and remotely stealing all my personal info "steam account, social network's login credentials, bank accounts, etc"

If your looking for a good firewall, you should try Zone Alarm. It's recommended alot and it does have it's popularity.

Windows firewall plus your routers NAT firewall should be just fine.

You can never be fully protected on the net. There are just too many variables. With online banking not only do you have your security to worry about, but also that of your bank. Just remember to change your passwords occasionally.

If you use the Windows Firewall, this should be helpful:

Windows 7 Firewall Control : Sphinx Software

You can manually create rules wherein you can control the applications that can access the internet Incoming or Outgoing.

    Hope I helped! :)

Not bad, good for basic protection though. I'm good with MSE in your machine, better get some more effective 'Added' protection for Windows. Say for AntiSpyware get MalwareBytes AntiMalware & for more advanced firewall protection install Comodo Firewall / PCTools Firewall.

    Hi there
I'm not sure why you NEED malwarebytes in addition to MSE as MSE does this fine and is updated nearly every day.

It has "Real Time" protection as well.

As I keep pointing out to people on these Forums - what good is it to find out that your computer has malware installed and running on it SEVERAL DAYS after it got itself installed.

You won't know what its done to your machine or how much your personal data has been compromised -- even if you do get rid of it.

The first thing to understand is WHAT are you trying to prevent. If it's malware etc then you need to know IMMEDIATELY if this has got on to your machine --not 3 days later.

Viruses and trojans are usually easier to handle as these usually come from downloads from "dubious sources" and will be flushed out by the AV scanning process -- however these type of problems are diminishing for most users since other sorts of attack are much more dangerous and MUCH MORE PROFITABLE to those involved in this stuff.

If you haven't got REAL TIME protection then almost anything else IMO IS USELESS.

After the fact fixes are a bit like "Monday Morning Quarterbacking". Things like MSE and Microsoft Forefront Client security have a tiny footprint, are updated nearly every day, have REAL TIME PROTECTION and can do quick scans that DON'T slow your machine down say every few hours.

    Cheers

The only other real-time protection that I have besides MSE is ThreatFire , and my uncle, who built this computer, felt good enough about this combo (with NoScript) that he gave it to me with UAC disabled, knowing that I am not exactly an IT pro.

Nothing has gotten through these two months, and I am online an awful lot. I also use Adblock Plus and NoScript, but I've moved up to FF 3.6. :)
