Norton's limiting running out!

Getting my new computer back on 1/1/10, it came with Norton Security Scan. Compared with my old computer and security; the fact that it shows what sites are safe or not, what attack was attempted but stopped because of it, etc. It is better, and I want to keep it.

However, it has been stating that time is running out and we're at 14 days now (at the time of this post) until it goes. I tried renewing it, only to have it go to a japanese site, and not being able to renew it as it says an error had occured. So I'm stuck.

I need help in keeping Norton. Is there a way?

P.S. I like Norton for what it does, as stated above. But, if there is something out there that does the exact same thing and is better than Norton (because there always seems to be something better than the other), let me know.

Microsoft Security Essentials? Hmm, what does it have parallel to Norton? One of the things I love is its ability to check websites is they are safe or not (like on Google, the website results have a green checkmark next to it indicating its safe. Or a red (can't remember what thing it was) indicting it wasn't safe). And if I go to a site through a image link; if its bad, a screen shows up warning me that it is unsafe. That's what I like from Norton.

Does Microsoft Security Essentials have that?

That feature is called Norton Safe Web. They recently released Norton Safe Web Lite (it is in beta form at the moment) which can be installed while using another anti-virus such as Microsoft Security Essentials.

I use WOT which is a plugin/addon available for both IE and Firefox.

WOT stands for Web Of Trust.

I suggest you try it. You can always remove WOT if you are not satisfied.

I also use Microsoft Security Essentials.

With Firefox I use NoScript which can be a pain at times but it does help to keep websites from unruly behaviour.

With Firefox I also use AdBlock Plus which results in a few websites, i think ebay is one of them, rebelling against it. For such sites you add an exception if you really need the site.

Not sure which is worse: A computer with a trial version of anything by norton or McAfee, or a computer with an uninstalled or soon to be expired trial version of anything by norton or McAfee

Microsoft Security Essentials is absolutely to be trusted. You will not be disappointed.
