Someone told me today that I should use the Mcafee Security Suite instead of MSE? What do yall think? I also use malwarebytes and I was wondering if I need to download another spyware program or if MSE and malwarebytes also do that? Thanks
Everybody has their opinion. Personally, with my surfing habits, I find that I don't need any of the commercial applications to keep my machine clean...thus MSE does it's job very well for me.
It is a matter of each person's choice. I don't use either MSE or McAfee. If I had to use one or the other, I'd choose MSE.
Ok thanks guys. Also is MSE and malwarebytes enough against spyware. I was told that they are not because MSE is mostly anti-virus and malwarebytes is for malware. Thanks
In my opinion, yes. MSE and Malwarebytes are sufficient. I have an anti virus program, a anti-malware program, and a software firewall running - plus I am behind a router hardware firewall. That and good surfing habits.
Well, McAfee failed to quarantine and remove an Autoloader Trojan from my system just an hour ago, so what does that tell you? I wouldn't use McAfee if you didn't have to (I'm only using it because it's free for a while and saves me the burden of dropping a few bucks I really can't afford right now on better software).
And interestingly, the last time I ever used McAfee, when I uninstalled it from our old XP Desktop, I immediately got slammed with dozens of nasties - pretty sure that was by their design, too in order to make it appear as "see what happens without us?!" kind of a thing - trying to scam us all back into it in other words. So again, I really would steer clear of it if you can.
Personally, I'm a fan of Nod32... I used it for two years and never once had a single problem, or major melt-down of my system. I almost thought it too good to be true because it was working so well, I thought it might not be working at all (if that makes any sense to you), but nope, it was the real-deal. But, it's a little steep for me and so that's why I don't have it again on this system - yet.
In my opinion MSE and Malwarebytes will do the job to keep your PC safe... and for McAfee... I had it on my old PC and it would find many viruses and always quarantine them, and after each scan like 20 would pop up and get quartined, untill my PC could no longer be used mcafee is good for looking pretty :P So yea MSE+Malwarebytes+WindowsFirewall.
Of course I realize that, and yes, that is entirely possible - but it happened nonetheless. Just stating the facts!
But again, for those who can afford it, NOD32 is the one to have. It never failed me once and detected/removed everything instantly, and for two wonderful years my XP machine ran flawless without a single piece of crap leeching off of it. I miss it.

My av is BitDefender Total Security 2010, it expires by the end of October and then I will most certanly use MSE
