    Bitdefender huge memory leak....solutions anyone??

    Hi there,

    INFO-
    OS-win7 32bit
    2GB DDR2 800Mhz RAM
    Bitdefender anti virus 2010

Yet another reason why I'm contemplating changing my AV.....Bitdefener has a huge memory leak, I opened task manager and was looking at the memory usage of some program's, two came to my attention. The first program, Firefox is currently using 102 940 KB of memory, it starts out at about 40 000KB and works its way up to the current amount. The second program is Bitdefeneder security center- which is currently using 56 040 KB, it starts out at about 18 000KB.

When the Bitdefender security center is running, my PC is extremely slow, it take literally 30 secs to a minute for the right click menu to appear, when i want to open my device manager, it says that the program is not responding. I have ended the process of the Bitdefender security center, and my PC is much faster, like for instance the right click menu is immediate, and the device manager opens without ease.

What my question is, is how to fix the huge power leak of preferably both programs, but most importantly Bitdefender.

I don't think it is a RAM problem. I never used BitDefender, but 50 to 60MB is normal for a security program. I suspect that there is a setting in BitDefender that keeps the pages from opening.
I would uninstall BitDefender and install MSE. That should work a lot better.

Hi "Saop Mactravish", looks like we're on the same side, for using the same brand not having the same problem! I'm using BIS2010 without any problems for more than 4 months & two OSs (WinXP Pro SP3 & Win7 U). As "whs" said, 50-60MB use is just normal. Even with running BIS firewall it still operates smoothly. Just run Malwarebytes updated version once to check if there's hidden malware which was missed by Bitdefender. Avoid switching to other AV unless you're just so sure, don't forget No Antivirus is just perfect! Though, I'd pick Bitdefender over MSE in 10/10 times.

Maybe have you set/let the Scan Disk on automatic so it runs everyday or everyweek...taking a lot of cpu while Scanning your disk for virus purposes...

If so, set it to manual or set it weekly in your parameters and run it by yourself.

It should not disable the Automatic QuickScan when virus definitions updates daily/weekly.

My AV/IS runs between 76000kb to 46000kb depend on where i surfing during the day, but i'm x64 system, could help.

    Hi,

    thanks for the replies

As for WHS's first reply, I have been thinking of changing to MSE, but i bought BD2010 for R150 give or take, and would be a huge waste of money.

As for 7MM's reply....I will definitely try malwarebytes, but wont it interfere with Windows Defender? could you maybe send me a link form a trusted provider of malwarebytes...Im paranoid as it is from the leak.

and as for NON's reply, I will try and set those settings, at the moment i dont know if it is set for every day or weak. I tried just now, but BD does not want to open. Could you also tell me how to set the parameters, i remember something like that but dont know for sure.

Also if this helps in any way......When i dont end the process, and jam mass effect 2, the loading takes literally 5-7 minutes. and the lag is mad....

Hi there, here's Malwarebytes for you. Man you've got some issue with that machine . Slowing down could be for various reasons. Infected by malware, too much of junk files on OS partition OR even partition got cluttered. Try running some real good system utilities as IObit's Advanced System Care . It offers both Paid & Free versions, I'd say you better try both. For initial use, try the full version for the trial period & get full benefit from all the features it offers. Once your machine gets in the shape, replace it with the Free version. This is worth a try, so gi for it, Good Luck!

Yeah, I know. I dumped 2 years worth of Norton (3 systems) to install MSE on the 3 systems. It is a choice you have. But relative to the RAM usage, it is not going to change a lot. MSE uses 50MBs also.

    OK,

    I have downloaded malwarebytes.

OK this is what happened, bitdefender is now using only 18 345 or something along those lines, my pc is fast again. but now BitDefeneder service are not responding. and asks for me to restart my PC.

But i will def. downlaod those utilities.

Hey WHS, how is MSE, is it good for a free AV..?

I'd recommend Avast! 5 (Free) over MSE.

Avast! has a very good detection rate and is one of the lightest AVs around.

    OK,

what I've got(on external, only setups)
    Kaspersky
    AVG 8
    Avast home family edition

but when it comes to AV, i really want to purchase them, because of the perks.
