    GregS or Brink,
I was able to get thru the tutorials and create the task part of the scheduler.
The icon shortcut however was another story. Typing in schd/task/tn would not work, pop up stated no such file. Using the browse button would only allow the icon to open up the subjects dir on the C drive. I also want to use this on two monitoring apps the start at windows start up??????????????????????

It works for me. I also use it for apps that run in startup. Here's an example of one that is in HKLM run
    E:\Windows\System32\schtasks.exe /run /tn HDTune

Remember that if the task name is two words you will need to do as Brink teaches "You will need to have quotes around the name if it has spaces."
That would be around the task name. In the example above, if my task name would have been HD Tune, note the space in between HD and Tune, it would have looked like this
    E:\Windows\System32\schtasks.exe /run /tn "HD Tune"

    OK,
I was able to get the app to work, did not put spaces inbetween schdtask /run /tn ***.

Now I used link at the bottom for startup/logon tutorial. I still get the pop-up at windows start. Its for EVGA Precision that oc's my vid card and EasyTune6 which has temp monitoring. Any thoughts.

PS: Just had a thought, if Precision and ET6 are already in the normal startup in msconfig, and I create these tasks, is there a conflict or is that why I still got a UAC pop-up?

Your thought is correct. Use only the scheduled task name that you made. This same thing happened to me the first time. I edited the original startup entry with the newly made scheduled task name

    Ok,
I got things to work as I wanted, but theres 1 rub. I use EVGA Precision to OC my vid cards and increase the fan speed. I'm not interested in having them work on demand, I want the app to maintain my profile at the same levels, at all times that machine is running, starting at boot. Now, what happens is that the app does its thing and brings on my choices at boot, like I want, but it also starts the apps GUI. I do not want the GUI to pop up, I just want my profile to run at boot. So with the scheduled boot task, I also get the GUI, if I do not make the task I get the UAC popup.
The profile runs right, how do I lose the pop-ups?
I want my cake and I want to eat it too! LOL
Do I go deeper into the EVGA folder and just use that profile I've made?

    TY

Before the task name was made by you, did this app place an entry in the registry for starting up?

It has a check box on the GUI to apply settings at windows start up. I unchecked the box and unchecked it in msconfig. The profile won't start. Creating the task seems to engender just the GUI opening. I have not looked into the registry, that can be dicey. By not creating the task, I get the profile to start and the GUI does not pop-up, but of course the UAC asks about it at boot up.

Reason for asking is that the run command for that particular app in the registry may have switches added to the path/command. If you know what the exact syntax of that run command, you may be able to make it also work with the task name.

The only thing I can think of is to get Process Explorer.

    Process Explorer

There is a Crosshairs Icon on the toolbar of this program that lets you drag to any app and see what the process is running. If the GUI process is different from the boot process, you could disable just the GUI part from running at startup. <--- I dont know if this will work for your program though. Hope that helps.
