I've been playing with a copy of Norton Internet Security 2009 and I am most impressed. I abandoned Norton some years ago because of the bloat and its propensity to hog limited resources. Even last year's version was, at least, in my opinion, awful. However, the new NIS09 is a lean, mean, fighting machine.
I have it running on an old computer: P4C 3.2GHz, 875P chipset, ICH5R, 2GB DDR SDRAM, Win.7.x86. Runs fine. (So does Win.7.x86, although Aero won't work because the graphics card can't support it.)
I'm very favorably impressed, and, given how much I have disliked NIS in the past, that's saying something.
Norton 09 Believe it or not is actually a really good speedy antivirus
I'd say that Norton '09 is better than Norton '02 and '03 -- back when Norton was good. I abandoned ship when '04 came out. Went McAfee for 2 years. Then switched to AVG (which I'm still using - see my cocktail post, above).
However, the new slim & trim Norton '09 suite may be just the thing to install for various friends & family members. One package and be done with it -- expecially considering how well it's behaving on my old clunker.
If you are looking for something other then Norton you could also look over Trend Micro's lineup there. Also look over the reviews on security products for recommendations if deciding to go retail. I kind of favor one seen at AVG Antivirus 8 Internet security and firewall reviews - CNET Reviews
I've been using Avast for awhile now and it's saved my bacon many times where Norton's let me down.
using Eset Smart Security 4 x64 .. working like a charm .. not supported officialy but also on their knowledgebase is that they are preparing for win7 ..until now no problems , using also the newest beta modules ..
I switched from AVG to avira 5 months ago.
It's really good, light, efficient.
