Trend Micro have a beta release under one of their support pages, but i recomend to install the trial version of it, cause this version will not activate with full version serial yet. A full version installer will be released soon.

Trend Micro is good one to start with for a retail product. For seeing bugs removed you can also download their free House Call tool and allow the online scanner to go through everything! Another place also providing an online scanner is used by commercial interests seen at Secunia.com
AV-Comparatives - Independent Tests of Anti-Virus Software - Welcome to AV-Comparatives.org is the place to look at.
I personally use Avira, on friend computer Eset
From what I've seen over the last several years I don't think you will ever be able to point to just one program as the absolute best to start with. You simply have to go with what works best in your own circumstance whether retail or one of the free versions found.
I use NOD32 on all my systems lol. it is a great product...
I use Eset Smart Security and like it :)
i used to use it but have moved to avira.I use Eset Smart Security and like it :)
imo i think eset and avira should be the two big guns instead of norton and mcafee
