The fact that most computer makers bundle it speaks reams to me - if it is so good why would they need to do that?
Could be because Norton pays to be pre-installed,
No different than Mcafee pays the manufactures to be there,
    Money talks,
Junkware makes computers cheaper because they derive funds from pre-installed software.
    Consumer looses.
I agree either one could not be gifted to me,
I read some where that either AVG or Avast was powered my Mcafee ?
Not Avast for sure. And I don't believe AVG either. I have never heard that myself. A Guy

I was pondering switching a while back and one of the sites showed it on the bottom of the sites page,
Now this was a couple years ago,
I've looked at both sites and couldn't find it so I wouldn't blame them for removing it ?
Then again I might most likely be mistaken completely :)

    MSE

I tried them all and found out that Microsoft Security Essentials works the best. It caught what the $39.95 - $69.95 anti-virus suites missed. Test show that MSE is not good, but don't believe them, they don't like MSE because it's free and taken away customers

Absolutely TZ I was being very sarcastic when I said that it irks me too the bloat that companies like Toshiba and HP put on their machines and titled as to make the average user think the cannot do without the crap.

Again if you are looking lots of other stuff on this site and apart from the AVG these are good. I have tested the free Comodo and Bitdefender too and they are good but a bit naggy for my liking.
    Best Free Antivirus Software

I use a paid for Kaspersky and at less than $0.07 a day well worth the outlay and nevr have had a problem in four years.

There is this too if you are looking for more on call scanners - rootkits etc
Free Malware Removal Tools especially the rootkit ones are veeyr good.

I discovered ESET NOD32 in June of this year.

Before that, I had avast! Internet Security licenses for 6 computers.

I really like it so much not only did I buy a 3 computer license for my Windows 7 computers, I have one on it's way for my XP computer.

edit: I should have mentioned that you can download a trial copy of the program to see if you like it. That's what I did.
