Don't know which is best so I run BOTH. I like the way Avast will auto update and also has a scan log. MSE uses Windows Update and mine is set to check for updates but not install. MSE also doesn't have a log file so I don't know when and if a scheduled scan was run. MSE will only let you set one scan schedule and AVAST has a separate schedule for both Full and Quick. I have mine set to do a quick scan M-S and a full scan on Sunday. Just a few things that make AVAST a little better. They both play well together for now. Maybe MSE will make some GUI changes and give us more options.

The update default for Avast comes set at 240min (4hrs) but can be changed under Settings.

I wouldn't use either but I would choose Avast over MSE. It's a better all round program IMO.

As of tonight I have removed MSE and using AVAST. I had worked with MS on an OOBE Event-Error in MSE and they came up with a fix. After a week the problem came back. Received a message from another forum and other people are seeing the error again. I tried the fix again and it worked for one boot but then the error returns. I may try it again when MS has a new stable version, but in the tests I have seen AVAST is just a little better and no errors.
