Not sure where your getting the idea av programs are useless. I wouldnt want to be on the internet without one.

but....with the rise of hips/BB/sandboxes/virtualization sw(returnil/SD)/ the omnipotent cloud the debate whether av solutions are really needed or not has gained currency...the articles mentioned reflect both sides of the debate.

honestly an image backed upon an external hdd is a foolproof solution for the rainy day... provided one makes sure that the image actually works
