Is IE 8 Opening Ports (security risk ?). Screenshot enc

    Hi all

Looking at IE8 running it seems to have some ports like 64021 open.

Is this how it should work -- I don't like the idea of open ports without knowing what they are doing.

    Enc screenshot.

Any Guru out there -- Is this OK or is this a security hole that could potentially be exploited from "Outside" by any program executing from within the browser.

    Thanks.

    Hi digger
thanks for the reply but that doesn't say anything to me I'm afraid.
Any chance of an "English" explanation.

    Thanks

My best guess jim is that this would be for an outbound connection from your IE. I'm not really an IE/browser guru actually, to actually break down and disect it. I think you should be safe tho. What other services are you running on that rig? any DNS, or iss, VisualStudio or such?

These ports have been in use for quite some time now Jim, just may not have recognized it beforehand.

This article goes waaaaay back to 97.

mod may want to move this to security instead of networking.

I think it's OK -- can't see any security stuff going out.

    Cheers

IE8 does all sorts of things, such as update any rss feeds you have, if you have the live toolbar installed, thatl open connections as well.
