    Pagefile & Hibersys Security Deletion

For security purposes, I would like to rebuild the pagefile and hibersys files. I tried deleting them from within windows, but they are in use and will not allow deletion. How does one safely delete these files...safe mode?

The above is based on the assumption that villians could extract sensitive data from these files. Is this a correct assumption?

    Thanks!

You can delete them by turning off pagefile and hibernation and rebooting. However, does a normal shutdown empty the pagefile and the hibernation file? I don't know the answer to this.

To delete hiberfil.sys, just disable hibernation. Run CMD as admin, then at the command prompt, type “powercfg.exe -h off” without quotes, hit Enter, close the window.

To re-enable hibernation, use the command "powercfg.exe -h on" in an elevated command prompt.

To clear pagefile at shutdown, see this tutorial. It should work equally well for win7. It also addresses your security concerns.

Thanks Bill2 and Carl, and thanks for the link. I'll downlaod the file and enable when necessary.

    Thanks again,
