AVG Processor Usage

Installed AVG Free Edition on a clean install of build 7100 64 bit version. Noticed that the machine started running slow and found that the cpu utilisation was at 100%. The cause of this was the AVG resident shield service. I have uninstalled AVG and installed Avast Home Edition. I would like to start using AVG again, but not if it is going to do this all the time. Anyone else come across this?

I have downloaded the latest AVG Free Edition 8.5 again and installed it. Seems to be behaving itself now....how strange.

It's the "LinkScanner" in AVG that's slowing you down. I think you'll find it in 'services' so you can disable it, or you can uninstall that particular feature.

I normally uninstall that. Thinking about it though, on the previous install I accidently did a typical rather than custom install.

Resident Shield was an issue for me too, so I just turned it off, will try reinstalling now see if it helps.

Yep NOD32 and AVG are both really good at resources... Maybe reinstall? I used AVG free for about 2 years, never had a problem with it.
