    Hey Rich, nothing personal so I hope you don't take that way. But, the continuing MSE recommendations here are not well serving the OP and beginning to border on nonsense! Sure it's a good Free-ware alternative but hardly a complete solution that in my mine doesn't deserve all the Kudos it receives here. Again IMO.

    Everyone is looking for free, but the are many outstanding "complete solutions" that include (antivirus -malware - spyware -spam) that are extremely economical, like $30.00 to $40.00 annually...

    At this price point why would anyone want to load multiple apps that need to be run manually just to save $30.00? I don't get it...

    Didn't mean to highjack the thread, so carry on and flame away if necessary.

    Not everyone has the money to spare.
    Understand and agree. Only hoping to point out the value of paid versus free to those that can make a nominal investment in their security decisions...

    It seems that at every given chance someone recommends MSE even when the OP is using a competent alternative and has expressed no displeasure with their current solution.

    Agreed, but in this case it is to late for prevention.
    Superantispyware is also a good choice. Don't let
    the name or site deter you, top notch software for malware
    removal.

    Although there are excellent paid products that include multiple functions, there are also many people who prefer not to put all their eggs in one basket. As a result, they may want a different vendor for anti-malware than for antivirus software or, as generally recommended, a secondary, non-resident, anti-malware application for supplemental scan.

    Consider also this Softpedia article in which the expensive paid software did not do much better than the free software at removals. (IMO, most likely, each of the programs would have done better dealing with a "normal" infection rather than being thrown at a database of thousands.)

    Antivirus: Free vs. Paid Detection - Avira, Microsoft Security Essentials, Kaspersky and avast!

    Judging strictly by the detection/elimination rate on a locally stored malware database, it looks like the freebies are in control. However, paid products, despite less powerful efficiency, provide protection against threats that come your way through various distribution means, such as drive-by downloads, email, scripts, etc.
