    Permissions Solved

Purely by chance I have stumbled across my answer to some programs installations giving permissions errors.

Prompted by a nag I attempted to upgrade my Firefox plug-in Macromedia Flash to version 10.

Every install attempt failed with a permissions error on the NPSWF32.DLL file.

Trying to manually remove or rename the file gave me the usual ' you do not have the permission to view or change this files properties' within the security tab. (Been here before with Google Earth)

The reason was that I had UAC turned off completely. Turning on UAC now gave me the question, do I want to allow this program permission. Answering Yes allowed Flash to proceed unhindered with its installation.
