UAC does not show when installing software

Hello everybody! I've been using the win 7 RC since yesterday and really like it (coming from XP). However, there is something about UAC that confuses me:

I work with a restricted user account. And I remember perfectly that yesterday whenever I installed new software I just downloaded, a UAC message popped up after I clicked on the .exe file, asking me to enter the administrator password before I could proceed with the install.

And now, whenever I want to install software, there is no UAC window and the installation wizard appears immediately as though there were no UAC at all. It lets me choose an install directory etc., but obviously, at some point during installation, I get an error message saying that I do not have the required access rights and the installation stops.

What is wrong ? I did not change anything about UAC behaviour, it is at the highest setting. Of course I can launch any install file as an administrator to avoid this problem, but I am not sure it was intended to be that way. And anyway I know that it worked yesterday...

Does anyone know what I am doing wrong here ? Thanks in advance for your help!

kind regards
Stefan

"do not warn me about this program again" first comes to mind, but you say you are on a limited account... restricted i think you referred to as. Try going back to the UAC settings and turn to high, if already there, move it to low, save, then back to high, save.

I did as you suggested, but that did not change anything. I also found out that UAC reacts with certain files, and with others not.
Example: I download the itunes install file from apple, or the firefox install file. I double click on it, and a warning appears asking me whether I want to run the file. I click yes, and the itunes installer launches. Of course I cannot install the program that way as I do not have the required rights.
If I double click on the thunderbird install file I just downloaded, UAC prompts me to enter the admin password. Same for the adobe flash player install file.
I just find it strange that .exe files downloaded from the Internet are not all handled in the same manner, I wonder if it was intended that way or if it's my fault
