Question about Malicious Software removal tool I couldn't seem to find the answer on any of the pages on the MS Site, so I'm wondering is anyone knows:
If I'm already running MS Security Essentials, do I need to d/l & run the Malicious Software Removal Tool? I'm guessing not, but it never hurts to ask.
And I'm guessing since I don't have MS Office I don't need the Sec Update for that. The only thing I have related to that is the MS PP Viewer
Thanks | My System Specs |

Thanks Hello Borg, this thread would be best moved to the security section, but in answer to your question in my humble opinion, in addition to MSE I run Malaware Bytes in tandem. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Custom Build OS Windows 7 7600 1 X64 CPU AMD PHENOM II X 550 PROCESSOR 3.1 ghz Motherboard ASUS M4A78-TE Memory Corsair 4 gig ddr 3 Graphics Card ati radeon 3300 Sound Card ati hd Monitor(s) Displays syncmaster 2033sw Screen Resolution 1600X900 60 hz refresh PSU antec_550 watt Case cooler master GLite Cooling stock_heat sink Hard Drives twin_seagates SATA's 1 TB & 500 Gig, hitachi_slimline 160 gig Internet Speed 20mbs up/ 1.5mbs down Other Info favorite child "stewie"

Malicious Software Removal Tool is another check for something your other protection may have missed and its a good idea to run it.
MS PP Viewer is built on MS Office and you should do ALL security updates.

Hello Borg,
The Malicious Software Removal Tool (click on link for more information) installs in Windows 7 through Windows Update, so there is no need to have to download and install it separately. It's just extra protection that will not interfere with anything else, and is recommended to have.
Hope this helps,

Thank you again everyone.
The only thing I really don't like about the Malicious software tool is that it goes into a sub folder and when a newer version comes out it just gets added in. From what I see, it doesn't delete the old versions which add to the clutter of files.
At least that was true in XP, I'm not sure if 7 takes the old version out.
I actually prefer to have it on the desktop in a folder where I can run it manually and then delete it when the new version comes out. I did manually d/l it & run a complete scan...you can never be too safe can you? | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Dell Hell oh Well OS Windows 7 Home Premium 32 bit CPU Intel Core 2 Duo 2.93GHz Memory Not much with my ADHD Graphics Card ATI Radeon HD 4350 Monitor(s) Displays I have one...It's bright. You can manually download it and skip loading it from Windows Update. Every month when you get the Update notice just go to this site for the new version. Malicious Software Removal Tool | Protect Your Computer
