Avira just killed everything! Did an update on my Avira Antivirus and it killed everything. None of my software works and even the OS is stuffed.
Any ideas on how to fix this before I re-install the whole lot? | My System Specs |

It won't let me. Avira deleted everything! I cannot access anything to do with the OS. Even Explorer shows up as a virus.
I am very disappointed with Avira. This is unacceptable. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Own build OS Windows 7 x64 Ultimate CPU Intel Core i7-870 Lynnfield 2.93 GHz Motherboard Intel Whitesburg P55 LGA1156 Memory Kingston Hyper X 1333MHz DDR3 2x4Gb Graphics Card Nvidia GTS 250 ECO 1 Gig 256 Bit Monitor(s) Displays Phillips 22" 221E1HSB LCD Keyboard Genius Mouse Genius PSU 650W Case Coolermaster HAF 912 Cooling Stock Hard Drives Western Digital 1000GB Hard Drive (SATA 3.0Gb/s, 7200rpm, 32MB Cache) Other Info LG OptDrive 24x SATA DVDRW Lightscribe |

Had to completely re-install Won't muck about with AV anymore though. From now on I'll just scan my Windows partition with my Linux partition.
Thanks for all your help though. Much appreciated. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Own build OS Windows 7 x64 Ultimate CPU Intel Core i7-870 Lynnfield 2.93 GHz Motherboard Intel Whitesburg P55 LGA1156 Memory Kingston Hyper X 1333MHz DDR3 2x4Gb Graphics Card Nvidia GTS 250 ECO 1 Gig 256 Bit Monitor(s) Displays Phillips 22" 221E1HSB LCD Keyboard Genius Mouse Genius PSU 650W Case Coolermaster HAF 912 Cooling Stock Hard Drives Western Digital 1000GB Hard Drive (SATA 3.0Gb/s, 7200rpm, 32MB Cache) Other Info LG OptDrive 24x SATA DVDRW Lightscribe |

Woah, good thing I switched to MSE a few weeks ago. Although Avira seems more powerful to me, MSE is more streamlined, plus it's made by the same people who developed Windows. Good luck fixing it man, hopefully you have a backup to fall back on.

Thanks for all your help though. Much appreciated. Not such a good idea. Although there are people who do run their systems without any form of AV protection, I do not recommend that. Many of us here use Avast! (including myself), and there are also alternatives available, both paid for and free. It is possible that they have had a rogue definitions update (it does happen), and this may well be the case here. | My System Specs | | Computer type PC/Desktop System Manufacturer/Model Number Dwarf Dwf/11/2012 OS Windows 7 Ultimate x64 Service Pack 1 CPU Intel Core-i5-3570K 4-core @ 3.4GHz (Ivy Bridge) (OC 4.2GHz) Motherboard ASRock Z77 Extreme4-M Memory 4 x 4GB DDR3-1600 Corsair Vengeance CMZ8GX3M2A1600C9B (16GB) Graphics Card 2 x AMD Radeon HD7770 1GB CrossFired (OC 1100MHz/1250MHz) Sound Card Realtek High Definition on board solution (ALC 898) Monitor(s) Displays ViewSonic VA1912w Widescreen (VGA) Screen Resolution 1440x900 Keyboard Microsoft Comfort Curve Keyboard 3000 (USB) Mouse Microsoft Comfort Mouse 3000 for Business (USB) PSU XFX Pro Series 850W Semi-Modular Case Gigabyte IF233 Cooling 1 x 120mm Front Inlet 1 x 120mm Rear Exhaust Hard Drives OCZ Agility 3 SSD 120GB SATA III x2 (RAID 0)

To support what Dwarf, MSE nor Avast will cause problems with your system. I urge you to install one of them and not run without AV protection. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Home built OS Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit CPU Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.00GHz Motherboard ASUS P4P800-VM Motherboard Chipset: Intel 865G + ICH5 Memory 2.50 GB RAM Graphics Card NVIDIA GeForce 7600 GS Sound Card SoundMax Integrated Digital Audio (Chip) Monitor(s) Displays ViewSonic VX 1962 wm Screen Resolution 1680 X 1050 Keyboard Microsoft Comfort Curve Keyboard 2000 v10 USB Mouse Logitec optic USB Cooling Fan based Hard Drives Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 80 GB
