Avast 4.8 Inconsistent results VISTA and W7
I'm getting really frustrated in testing some of this AV software ---
Testing now a VISTA ULTIMATE X-64 machine with SP1 and a Windows 7 RC 7100 X-64 install on a network sharing a Network drive 'O' which is attached to a CLEAN XP system.
Scan result for files on the O drive.
AVAST 4.8 on VISTA reports 100% clean.
AVAST 4.8 on Windows 7 reports about 5 "Possible Trojans" which I know are "False positives".
Kaspersky on the XP system reports "O" drive as clean.
Seems the MORE you test AV software the more "problematic" the results are in using it.
I should get a consistent result for a "Clean Disk drive" using the SAME software release -- surely.
How on EARTH do I decide what is OK and what is not now -- I've got other ways to test and understand exactly what I'm doing -- but what would a "Noob" think if they just did an install of AVAST 4.8 on their brand new Windows 7 system and found an attached disk drive was reporting "Possible trojans".
I'm afraid I'm getting more and more unimpressed with "so called security" software by the day.
Security should be important -- but to get inconsistent results when using the SAME release of software on testing a KNOWN disk drive is NOT GOOD.
