Is there a way to determine what causes a UAC warning?

7power, we had another thread recently about how and why the UAC does what it does and how annoying it can be to some. Personally, I just click yes when I need to, and once had it pop up when I hadn't clicked anything. The ability to hit "no" helped, and after doing a virus scan two different things were removed. It ask for a reason. Just click yes.

faladu, it is important to make sure you only have one real time protection AV running at a time. I'm not familiar enough with everything you list to know if you have more than one or not, but having more than one can cause the two to conflict with each other. It can cause your computer to lock up and actually make you less protected than with just one. Here is a article on the matter.

A/V wise I am using Avast!'s only for real time active protection.

I agree, one active A/V is best and that's all I use

WinPatrol is not A/V per say, protects in other ways.

WinPatrol's sister program, which I also bought is TaskCatcher, which you can blacklist or white list programs, white listed programs will automatically restart immediately and let you know if desired, that they were shutdown and blacklist of course shuts down immediately anything I have blacklisted, I am currently not running TaskCatcher, no need atm, but have used in the past.
It can be used in a stealthy way to prevent others from using programs on your PC while you aren't there...

Spybot, Malwarebytes' and Spyware Blaster I use to scan or update their protections that are injection style fixes and/or scans, not real time, the only real time pieces are updates, but I just keep them no cost by doing manually, and using them once a week at least for scans and/or injection updates.

Boostspeed and Tuneup are tweaking utils suites with no anti-viruses, but both worthy for other reasons. [again, try them]
