    **SOLVED** Another Aero Problem

Hi Everyone - 1st post here

I have recently installed win 7 ultimate 64bit on my pc. I have since found that aero themes wont work. I have tried everything I can find about it and nothing has helped...my win 7 aero theme is EXACTLY the same as the basic version

-Troubleshooter says there is no problem
-Swapped between basic/high contrast themes and aero themes
-Updated all drivers for video card, motherboard and display
    -WEI is 3.7

When I change the colour options of an aero theme, instead of the box that gives you transparency options, etc, I get an "old style" dialog box where you change the colour of the desktop, or frames round the outside of windows, etc

Aero peek option in the taskbar properties is ticked, but greyed out, as is "peek at desktop" on the show desktop button.

One thing I have noticed is that in the visual effects tab (where you can choose settings for best performance, appearance or let windows choose for you) all the tick boxes I have are nothing compared to the amount of boxes that are on screenshots in various tutorials I have seen...they have so many, they have a scroll bar to go through all the tick boxes...I have space for about another 6 boxes before a scroll bar would appear...the thing that worries me is that I have no "enable aero peek" box there to tick.

I know my system can take it as before this OS, I had the 32Bit version and it worked without a hitch, installed the 64Bit OS and it disappeared...came back for about an hour and then disappeared again.

Its not that I need it, its just that I know its there and my system can take it and it looks so much better..plus I way prefer the ALT-TAB alternative (win key-TAB)

Any other suggestions people could make, I would be very grateful

    EDIT

If you look at this link --> Window Color and Appearance - Change then you can see in step 5 (adjust colour intensity) is what I am supposed to get when I click "window colour"...instead I get whats in step 7C - which to my mind, it is treating the aero theme exactly like a classic theme

Try this Option Two. This is in a different location than Option One. Transparency - Enable or Disable

    Try applying Custom here-
One thing I have noticed is that in the visual effects tab (where you can choose settings for best performance

Option One you would have done here as step 4. Window Color and Appearance - Change

Hi - I dont even have that option. This is what I have in visual effects:-

You have a lot more options than me
There is not even a remote mention of anything to do with aero
Obviously the amount of options doesnt change depending which option you put a dot next to lol :)

3.7 - this is because of my graphics card - |I didnt realise the mobo doesnt have integrated graphics so i got the best I could at the time...I just wanted to get a picture, lol

    CPU & Memory got 7.5.

Think I am right in saying I need 2 or above for aero to work? Surely troubleshooter would have picked up on it anyways and like I say, ts said everything was fine

This is what the trouble shooter says:-

Gone to the windows\resources\themes folder, but there is no sign of the icons its saying should be there...just the aero themes that comes with win 7

As you can see, it didnt really go according to plan

    Hi
thank you for the extra info.
I believe that this is caused by the Asus gamer osd program being corrupted.
Here is how to remove it.
Insert the Asus VGA Driver disk into your PC and DO NOT click auto play.
Cick start/computer and right click on the disk and open the files.
You will see three files one named autorun one named driver and one named utility.
Click on the folder (utility) and then click on Gamer OSD.
after that maske sure that you click on vista nad then run the setup.
When setup is complete reboot your pc and then go to control panal/uninstall program and uninstall the Asus gamer osd program.
After that reboot your pc again and you should have Aero and everything else back.
    Thank you
    Ashley
