I Own the Home Basic Edition Folks, I finally bought a new computer here in Mexico with Windows 7 Home Basic, and realized too late that it is not Home Premium. But I'm having a great time with it.
Does anyone else on this forum use Home Basic?
My computer is dual-core with 4 gigs of RAM. Is there a download that will allow me to use Windows 7 themes on my computer?
PS. Windows XP, you served me well. Adios.

PS. Windows XP, you served me well. Adios. Your best bet would be to buy an anytime upgrade to Windows 7 Home Premium at this point. There should be an option for this somewhere in the start menu. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number iBuyPower Chimera X58 OS Windows 7 Home Premium x64 CPU Intel Core i7 920 Motherboard Asus P6T Deluxe V2 Memory 12GB (2GB x6) Triple Channel DDR3 1333 MHz Graphics Card ATI Radeon HD 4870 X2 2GB GDDR5 Sound Card Integrated Digital HD 7.1 Surround Sound Monitor(s) Displays 24.6-inch ASUS VW246H 20000:1 Contrast, 2 ms response time, Screen Resolution 1920x1080 Keyboard Razer Lycosa Mouse iBuyPower Ergonomical Internet Mouse PSU NZXT 800W Gaming Series Case Guardian Inferno (Custom Painted NZXT Guardian 921) Cooling Thermaltake V1 Fan Cooling System OC Proof Hard Drives 1 TB 7200 RPM SATA II 3 GBps 16MB cache Internet Speed 11 MBps High-speed Cable |

Believe it or not, I can't. Home Basic cannot be upgraded, at least not in Mexico. Starter can, but not Home Basic. I think the idea is they didn't want people buying it cheap, bringing it to the US, and then upgrading it. | My System Specs | | OS Windows 7 Home Basic, 64 bit CPU dual core, Athlon 2; 3.4 gigahertz Memory 4 gigabytes Graphics Card ATI Radeon HD 5400 Series Sound Card AMD High Definitin Audio Device Monitor(s) Displays Generic PnP Monitor Keyboard Standard PS/2 Keyboard Hard Drives ST350041 3AS SCSI Disk Device Other Info Assembled in a Mexican computer store |

Home Basic does not support Aero for themes (transparency, for instance). There apparently is a workaround that I cannot confirm myself, as I have Home Premium. Have a look at OPTION TWO here: Desktop Background - Change in Windows 7 Starter

Thanks, A Guy. It works great. I can download and install themes easily. Now I'm trying to figure out how to turn Aero on.
