    Hi TWardy

If you post a link to the theme you are looking at we can help you through it. If it a third party theme you will need to patch some system files in order to install it. Have a look at this link for some more information - Theme - How to Apply Custom Themes

Yes, they are easy to install and uninstall. Unless if you mean a theme that requires system files modifications or if it is a 3rd party theme, you will need to do more things, which will take more time and may be difficult depending on your experience. If you can tell me what theme you meant or link us to "sum laptop themes", I may assist you well.

I'm really not sure. I would love a dark theme. To have everything black with red writing. I have tried to download a couple of dark themes but it just seemed to change desktop background - but i can only see the same high contrast themes?

Did you patch the system files and reboot before installing. You mentioned high contrast themes have you got aero enabled. Is it an aero or HC theme you want to install.

I did none of these and am really not sure what any of that means. I downloaded an original win 7 dark theme as it was supposed to be easy.

Please point the theme out ... it will be easy to tell you what you are to do to apply it.

Download the theme, extract it on your desktop.
Now , download the themepatcher from the link that Danny provided Theme - How to Apply Custom Themes, the 64 bit one. Run it as admin (Right click > run as admin). Patch all the three offered dll files, and restart your computer.

Open the themes folder from your desktop ... there should be one file folder named Concave7, containing two folders viz en-US and shell, and a windows visual style file. There is another windows theme files named Concave7. Copy the entire folder described first, and the theme file, and go to C:\Windows\Resources\Themes; nad paste the both there.

Come back to your desktop. Right click > personalize. In the resulting window , scroll a bit down and look for installed theme concave 7, it should be there already. Apply it, and see the changes.

There are more system components in that theme, but those are bit difficult to apply.
