Lost my Basic Windows 7 Theme

    Hi,

My name is Aakash, and I have somehow managed to loose my basic windows 7 theme and the Aero Themes. Which basically switched me back to the old windows them with no transparency and smooth effects. I would really appreciate if you can help me with retrieving the themes back . I have already updated my video drivers!!!! I think

    Bye

Try this Click on start button in the search box type Aero and look for Find and fix problems with transparency and Click on it then follow through with the prompts and let it check for problems.

Wow thanks for the help but I tried that before and it told me that the trouble shooter has not found any problems. Is there any other way I could get this fixed... and You dont have to work so hard and post pictures of the windows I have a general knowledge about some of the windows systems.

Umm if it helps I also tried going in the system properties and under system protection I get the following error: Located in the attachments....

    Thank you so much..

I deleted Windows Basic since I do not use it but here is a backup of Windows Aero:

    aero.zip

Place both "aero.theme" and the "Aero" folder in C:/Windows/Resources/Themes.

Next try Stopping, then Disabling and Enabling "Themes" and Start it again from services.msc (press Win Key + R and type services.msc and hit enter OR type service.msc in the Search box

You may also want to try an SFC Scan

Thanks.... umm I tried that but it says this theme cant be applied

Yeh I tried to copy the files in the existing folder but it wont let me copy 4 files due to some authorization.. Even though I am the administrator of this laptop. Plus I tried the start up repair today afternoon, and it said there are no problems, but didn't try the command prompt method or the last one.

But thanks for the help really appreciate it.

Ooh Wow.... Tht was little complicated..

But I did try both the options you gave me and I got the ownership of the themes folder.. Then I added the files you sent me. But still when I double click on the themes I get the following error.

    Please see the attachment...

    Thank you for trying though...

adhawan, the windows basic theme should be placed here...
    C:\Windows\Resources\
I've uploaded the zip file, just extract to your desktop then move the "Ease of Access Themes" folder to the location above.

Hey I tried a similar approach to the themes folder

I got a file from Infinite I believe and I could change the files due to some permission problem even though I have turned my user account control to zero. Not sure why it wont let me copy those files.

    Thank for the help though..

Apply Step 6 to the Ease of Access folder as you only did it to "Themes" I assume.
