Windows 7: Transparent .PNG image not working as my account picture.

You can remove the picture without removing the frame with Logon-WorkShop. You can also do a lot more like changing images, setting user tiles to vertical and move things around just to name a couple.

To remove the picture you need to create a new Logon and then edit it and set the width and height to 0 for both the normal and zoomed user tiles.

If anyone wants to do this manually with a resource hacker I compared the files and found this is what it changed. Set the widths and heights to 0.
Code:
<if id = "atom(Picture)">
<if ElementZoomed = "true">
<ZoomableElement
width = "126rp"
height = "126rp"
/>
</if>
<ZoomableElement
width = "48rp"
height = "48rp"
accessible = "true"
accrole = "40"
accname = "resstr(11400)"
/>
</if>
Except this only worked for the zoomed image. Changing the above and the following worked for both zoomed and unzoomed. In the following change layoutpos="client" to layoutpos="none"
Code:
<ZoomableElement id="atom(Picture)" layoutpos="client" />
I've also attached the my modified file from Windows 7 Ultimate x64 that I modified using Resource Hacker.

Haha I hate to do this to you but I have one more problem now. I have the picture removed but now I don't have the background I want its the normal windows background and iv checked throughout the program to see if I can delete the deafault and replace it with mine. I dont really understand this a whole lot so, sorry!!! However I didnt change the user picture overlay on both so Il try that to see if it removed the deafult background and post back. Thanks

EDIT: Nope that didnt help, that got rid of the frame aswell. Now all I need is to change the background and then I shall stop occupying all of your nice peoples valuable time!

Yes removing the overlay does remove both but if your using Logon Workshop you can open the folder that the Logon Workshop exe is in and then the subfolder Logons and find your Logon's folder and in that there's a file called Background.jpg that you can replace.

I know if your doing the background manually by enabling OEMBackground in the registry there is a file size limit of 256kb but I'm not sure if Logon Workshop will automatically resize the image.

Using the manual method you can actually have different images for different resolutions, each image needs to be resized to the appropriate width and height, not that many will ever need this.
But I don't know if the manual method will work along side of Logon Workshop. You can read more on using the manual method here Log On Screen - Change under Option Three.

Im on my new laptop with all these problems and I swear its getting worse by the minute. I now just had to re favoruite my entire googlechroome bookmarks, download the extensions and themes all over. I made the background i had instead of the default one and then when i hit apply it comes up with an error and crashes everything. I cant take a scrn shot because my entire computer just ceases to work... This is going to be the death of me. It says something along the lines if you continue it will force the computer to do this and if you quit it will close the program. Heres the screenshot of my background in the file..

Should there be any reason for this not working?

I have know idea about this error. Presuming you have no problems booting at the moment the first thing I would do is make a backup of "C:\Windows\System32\authui.dll" and C:\Windows\Branding\Basebrd\basebrd.dll" and place them in C:\ for easy access.

Next make sure you have a way to restore these dll's in case you can't boot. Should be able to do this with a Linux boot cd or the Windows 7 DVD (Copy & Paste - in Windows Recovery Console), if not using 64bit Win7 DVD try copying a text file to verify that they are copied to the 64bit folders and not the "\Windows\SysWOW64\" folders. Name the text file AAA or something easy to locate.

If you are sure you can restore the dll's click continue unless the computer freezes and prevents you from doing anything.

Have you made any other changes other than the User Tiles picture size and background? There might be a problem with a change you made. I would try creating a new Logon making one change at a time, applying after each change.

This could be due to conflicting software, a virus scanner or who knows, it's a computer. You could try logging on as a Admin if your not already.

If you havn't made any other changes and I presume changing just the User Tiles worked for you then try creating a new Logon, make the User Tiles changes and make sure this still works. If it does then backup the backgound.jpg and then replace with yours and see if the error still persists.

If the error is still there then restore the backed up background.jpg and apply the Logon. I have tested it with a image larger than 256kb and a resolution greater than mine and checked that in fact it does work and uses the "\Windows\System32\oobe\info\backgrounds" folder so I would suggest rather than using Logon Workshop to replace the background just use the manual method in the link I provided earlier, replacing the background(s) created by Logon Workshop.

You could also Google the error and see if anything turns up but I wouldn't spend hours looking.

Sorry my laptop has taken an absolute turn for the worst! I havnt been able to fix it using any method. All I want now is my laptop back to normal, since these changes its become so slow and unresponsive and I have backup disks from when I first got it but everytime i try to use them, theres only two. It says theres nothing on them. I didnt get a windows 7 cd with my laptop when my parents bought it of course because it comes loaded with it but I do have the code for it. Right now I have all my important files on a 32 GB USB and I just want to format the damn thing but i cant without a disc and for some reasons my backups arnt working. Is there anything you can suggest?

EDIT: The problem with my google chrome now is that to load a site it takes around 2 minutes and it says "waiting for cache" and i have emptied it from the beggining of time multiple times and it has not helped at all.

First I would download your network drivers so you can be sure you can get on the internet after a clean install or if you use wireless internet then get your drivers for that or whatever drivers you need to get on the net. Probably won't need them but better safe than sorry.

If you have a factory recovery partition then you might want to use that or have a read here - Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7

Make sure you download the correct ISO version or your key won't work.

If you want to keep your modified startup screen then copy "C:\Windows\System32\authui.dll" to your backups. After a clean install backup the original and read the 2nd paragraph of Post #16 before replacing. If this causes problems then you should only need to copy back the backup authui.dll.
