Data Store File Missing, Unable Select Aero or Basic themes

I had been having problems with being able to select Aero or Basic themes. I have been in Windows Classic for 6-8 months and never thought to change it. Today when trying to switch to an Aero theme I noticed both Aero and Basic are grayed out and unselectable. After reading forums and looking for solutions I came across one that mentioned deleting all files in your DataStore directory except for the most recent file. I went to find my DataStore Directory in WinSat and found it was missing. I have tried google searching for what to do when it is missing but seemed unable to find anything relevant. My PC is not what it used to be due to hardware failures causing me to use old PC parts from past machines, but in it's current state has had Aero running with no problems in the past. Current specs are:

    Processor: E8400 @3Ghz
    Ram: 1g (I know sad!) DDR2 667
HDD: 300GB Seagate Baracuda 7200 RPM 32mb cache
Video Card: OnBoard Northbridge, Intel G45 Express Chipset.

Were you actually using the Classic Shell? If not, how did you disable AERO in the first place?

Suggest you start with the System File Checker

SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

See if it finds error and can/cannot correct them. The whole DataStore directory missing is not a simple problem. A Guy

I changed to classic via the context menu's within windows, I do not remember the exact path. I never modified anything that I know of though. I am running the SFC check now and will let you know results as it comes through.

Look at OPTION THREE to pare that down to the most pertinent information.

SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker
