Problem with applying screensaver

I've been having trouble with my laptop where if I don't pay attention it will bring up a black screen saver then lock me out which is according to my settings. the problem is that it is set for 1 minute. I try to change the type of screensaver and change is to 10 minutes before it will activate and when I set everything and hit "Apply" it looks as though it has saved but when I close the window and reopen the settings it has gone back to a blank screensaver and a 1 minute activation timer. Why is it doing this and how can I make the settings stick? I don't think it is a virus because my antivirus is up to date and takes care of everything, I check it regularly and I have no viruses. Please help.

I'm no expert on this but give this a try. Do everything you have been doing, (Apply, Save) and then reboot.
