Universal theme patcher problem, windows slowed down

    Hello,
I have an HP Pavilion dv7-6b63us. I attempted to customize Windows 7 with 3rd party themes using the Universal Theme Patcher, but after patching the three files(themeui.dll, themeservice.dll, uxtheme.dll) and upon reboot, the Windows OS will log in but it takes about 15 minutes for any of the Windows programs and/or framework. In example the Explorer.exe will not work and after a few seconds the start menu wont either, and the wifi symbol will still appear with the loading circle on but the wifi still works. I can still use chrome, and any applications such as Photoshop.
After about 15 minutes everything is back to normal, but as you can imagine it is quite a bother to have to wait 15 minutes.
I have tried doing system restores, sfc /scannow to fix the files, and even after the files are repaired it still takes 15 minutes and I can't figure it out.
Thank You to anyone that can help.
Btw, It's Windows 7 Ultimate 6.1.7601 SP1 Build 7601 if that means anything. And I would prefer to stay away from a system restore if possible.

Sorry I don't have the details, as I quit using custom themes a long time ago, but another way to use custom themes is to run a service that permits it -- and that does NOT mess with any of the system files. I think that used to be listed in one of the stickies related to theming -- but as I said, it's been a long time since I used it and I don't remember the name.

Thanks I will try that eventually, but I was looking for a fix or if anybody had a similar problem because even with the files restored, it still seems to the problems mentioned above.

Welcome to Seven Forums tkdkid. Do you have a System Restore Point from before you patched? That may restore normal operation. It is odd that if indeed the patching caused the issue, and SFC restored the original files that the problem persists. You might try a clean start to see if something else is conflicting.

If no change, a Repair install may be in order. It will keep your programs and files intact.
