    Is there a way to make the dark red color on the left and right not there? Here is the screenshot.

    Try changing your wallpaper and see if you get the same effect.
    I just tested that theme and with different wallpaper it change the look.

    Try adjusting the slider's highlighted in red in Windows Color and Appearance

I dont like the aero effect so I dont use it. I liked the dark grey/black task bar of vista, although on windows 7 the windows basic theme makes the task bar a nasty blue grey colour. So basically can I have the task bar from vista in windows 7?
