If you go into themes hover over the photo a name like img0.jpg (main Win 7 wallpaper)
pops up. So search that and you find each theme has a folder with a name like

    C:\Windows\winsxs\x86_microsoft-windows-s..allpaper-landscapes_31bf3856ad364e35_6.1.7600.16385_none_895c1fabae7e0073

    so go C: --> Windows --> winsxs --> x86_microsoft-windows........other shit here
If you're still subscribed to this, then thank goodness someone knows this. A systemwide search turned up nothing for me, but searching within C:\winsxs\ found what I was looking for.

Well, some folks seem to find the jpg's here, some there. Mine are listed in the Control Panel (Control Panel\Appearance and Personalization\Personalization\Desktop Background) as My Documents\My Pictures\Theme01, or Theme02, etc.

Another way to view/save these wallpapers is to go to Personalize, click on Desktop Background at the bottom, a window displaying all the backgrounds for that theme will open, right click on the image you want, click OK to the Windows Security message that is displayed, right click menu will display, select Preview, the image will be displayed in Windows Photo Viewer (on my PC), select the File dropdown, select Make A Copy..., and save the image where ever you'd like.

    Dudes, it's really simple.
On Windows Explorer, point to the C:\Windows directory, in the search box, type *.jpg. Right click, group by folder right-click view thumbnails.
    c:\windows\web\windows\web\wallpaper\...
    c:\windows\globalization\MCT\...

Forgot a step. Start>control panel> file and folder options
View tab, uncheck Hide system files.

    Enjoy!

a work around for adding pictures

    locate the folder
    C:\Windows\Web\Wallpaper\Architecture
    you need admin privileges
then add photos to the folder it will then add the photos to the desktop slide show.
I am running windows 7 ultimate hope this works for you

    theme pics

I think they would like the place of the actual pictures in the theme which are in:
    C:\Windows\Web\Wallpaper
The pictures for the themes are there and you can customize them as you please.

    This is the simple answer

Add pics to themes: Copy and paste this in Win 7 search then open your folder and add or remove pictures as needed.

    %localappdata%\Microsoft\Windows\Themes
