Cannot Uninstall UxTheme Core Beta under Windows 8 after upgrade
I upgraded in-place from Windows 7 Professional SP1 x64 to Windows 8 Pro x64. I do not have Windows 8.1.
I forgot about UxTheme Core until post-upgrade, then figured I might as well uninstall it since it was designed for an OS I was no longer running.
However, I am not permitted to uninstall because "Your theme subsystem (e.g. uxtheme.dll, themeui.dll) has been tampered with. UxStyle requires these files be restored before you can continue."
Well yeah, these are Windows 8 files which have not been touched--but they're not Windows 7's, so the uninstaller refuses to move forward.
I have tried installing the Windows 8 compatible beta on top of this one but that also fails based on a "previous version" being installed already.
Is there some way to forcibly remove the old Windows 7 UxTheme?
