    Windows Theme Changes


    Hi people,

    I just bought a new system and installed Windows 7 and all the drivers,etc.

    I changed the theme to Windows Classic along with all the fonts and colors of my chose. I noticed that the changes as I was applying them were quick to change (ie. within seconds).

    Now, a couple of weeks down the track, when I went back to apply more changes to the theme, I noticed the time it takes to apply the changes takes much longer, up to half a minute or so.

    It doesn't seem a serious problem, the rest of the computer still runs the same, but it would be nice to know why it has slowed when applying these changes. I don't know if it was a program or windows update that I installed in the meantime that has caused the damage.

    If anyone with a bit more technical knowledge knows what may be the problem, I would be thankful for their advice.

    I have noticed the same. If you are using an Aero theme and change to another Aero theme, the change is instant. Change to a non Aero theme and it takes 30+ seconds, same if you change from a non Aero theme to an Aero theme. Further, in any type of theme, if you make changes in the advanced color settings, ie icon size, fonts, window color etc, these will also take a very long time.

    This is aggravating to say the least as it holds the system up entirely during the transition, and if you want to make further changes you wait once again.

    It never did that at first. It used to be quick to make changes to any theme, I'm sure it did. And not just that, now I can't even change the title bar fonts or sizes on the aero themes anymore.

    I am running Windows 64 bit on a new computer and I copied a theme from my old system that was running 32 bit Windows. I don't know if the system slowed down after that. I still have my old computer running and theme changes esp. on the aero themes are instant.

    You are correct. I just finished a new pc for a neighbor and any changes to themes colors etc are almost instant. I checked my almost new laptop, and it has the same delay as my desktop. The only common thread between the two is MS Office 2013. The laptop only has AV, office, windows updates installed. The new pc has not been updated by Windows, but does have AV installed.

    This is either a software, driver, or Windows update issue.

    I found the culprit on my systems, its the logitech setpoint drivers, I disabled them in the startup, rebooted, and everything is back to normal. I haven't had the time to pinpoint which of its 3 items are causing the problem.

    KHALMNPR.EXE
    Setpoint.exe/launchgaming
    eReg.exe

    these are all located in the startup part of msconfig

    An older driver may fix the problem ..........
