Need help with hex editing visual style colors

Hi everybody, i'm trying to change text colors of a few things.

I need to change the hover color of the text on the right side of the start menu, where links to main folders: documents, control panel, computer..ect. (pic1)

I would also like to change the text in the messages that appears when you hover over something like the start menu button, showing further information about that object. (pic2)

Im not sure what the hex values are.. nor how to change them. Can anybody help??

    Thanks :)

    Hi,

I found a few straight forward guides :

    https://www.sevenforums.com/customiza...nd-change.html
This one is about explorer background, but gives you an idea how it works.

Windows 7 Theme & Resource Mods
Guide #4b in this link explains how to use a hex editor and color detector to change colors in the taskmanager.
The same method can be used for other resources, like in your case those text colors.

This would be WAY easier using Windows Style Builder (aka Vista Style builder)

Dont know about the Hex'es though

Once you get how hexing works, it's not any more difficult then using VSB.
In fact, I know out of own experience that VSB takes a few weeks to really get the hang of it and to learn the location of all resources.

But if you don't mind spending 22 bucks on VSB, it is a fantastic peace of software engineering.
I bought it a while ago and am very pleased about it.
But I still use a resource hacker a lot. Gives me a feeling of control.

And one more advice if you're into hexing :

check out www.deviantart.com and search for the page of UKintel.
He's got a few very good hex guides for vista, and most of them can also be applied in win7.

thanks for the info/links shopbunny, i do have vista style builder. And like you said, its very confusing. Restorator alone took me quite a while to learn, especially since every style is compressed differently. But i'm not really into the whole hexing deal, just wanted to learn a few locations to complete my theme. i posted a preview here: "http://KRhanson.deviantart.com/art/Tribal7-Win-7-Theme-Preview-154604624" if you wanted to check it out.

I'll see what i can get off those websites, thanks for all your help :)
