As far as the default options go with Windows 7, you'll find your pointer options in the Personalization category of the Control Panel.

Control Panel > Appearance & Personalization > Personalization > Change Mouse Pointers

If you want to change the color of Selected Items, Go to the Personlization Menu again and Select Window Color at the Bottom

Pull up the Drop Down list and select "Selected Items"

If you want to change more than the options you see through those menus, check into software that changes your theme.

thanks.
i am interested in the selected items option.
But in windows 7+with the aero, the colors doesnt work.
The changes are visible only if i select the basic theme.
I am interested to use a custom color when i select items, on the aero theme.

for example, how can i change this yellow selection color?

You will need 2 thing to do this;
A photo editing software like Photoshop, Gimp etc.
Windows Style Builder (http://www.vistastylebuilder.com/)

Here's how;

1. Go to C:\Windows\Resources\Themes\Aero
2. Copy the Aero.msstyles to your desktop
3. Open the aero.msstyles in WSB
4. Find and edit the following images;
For Desktop:
Explorer & Shell > Explorer > ListView > ListItem > Hot
Explorer & Shell > Explorer > ListView > ListItem > Selected
Explorer & Shell > Explorer > ListView > ListItem > SelectedNotFocus
Explorer & Shell > Explorer > ListView > ListItem > HotSelected

For Explorer:
Explorer & Shell > Explorer > Items View > ListView > ListItem > Hot
Explorer & Shell > Explorer > Items View > ListView > ListItem > Selected
Explorer & Shell > Explorer > Items View > ListView > ListItem > SelectedNotFocus
Explorer & Shell > Explorer > Items View > ListView > ListItem > HotSelected

Now edit these as you wish and save your msstyles when your finished.

Now your ready for the next step, which you can find on this link

There's no such tutorial yet, but there is a bunch of helping threads at Virtual Customs - Home and i'm in the progress of making a big WSB location tutorial ;)

About the icons, i'm not sure. I would try to reboot and see if the problem is gone after that

yes, it will be of big help, because you will not have users nagging you with question like my next:

after i changed those values i still have one yellow line:

i dont know where to change that...

the icons still doesnt show...****'em..

I am registered blind, and have had to suffer Vista/7's sky blue 'selected item' colour for about 4 years now. My parent's eyesights are getting worse now as they get older. We are all running either Vista or 7 machines. We would like to keep Aero enabled rather than revert back to ''Classic''.

Has everyone who simply wanted to do this trick just to increase visibility 'really' paid 16.40Euros for each computer they want this on (since the liscense agreement says it's for one user only and not to share the key.)

EDIT:
I ask because I just don't have that sort of money to 'buy the fix' for 6 machines at £14.22 each or £85.32 in total (plus extra bank charges for converting the money into euros).
