Taskbar changes color and theme by itself?

So I'm a new Windows 7 user and I've noticed that last night when I left the computer on my taskbar's changed from grey to lightblue somewhere during the morning. Also, when I hover over or click the icons on the bar (say firefox), it no longer shows small samples of the windows/maps, but instead just shows the name of the map/program/window (the normal old xp style).

Then after a bit of time on the computer, the screen suddenly flashed and the taskbar was back to gray again and everything became how it was before. Why the hell is the computer/windows 7 doing this by itself?

    YOUR COMPUTER IS HAUNTED!

    Is this on a laptop?
I think you can have two different themes when its plugged in, or unplugged
    I THINK

    Not 100% sure

You can try right clicking on the desktop, go to Personalize, then choose the Window Color, and Desktop Background, ect. then Save theme by right clicking on "Unsaved Theme"

I'm starting to believe it might actually be haunted... virus scanner shows zip!

This is on a new sony vaio f laptop.

"Also, when I hover over or click the icons on the bar (say firefox), it no longer shows small samples of the windows/maps, but instead just shows the name of the map/program/window (the normal old xp style)."

Is the above even possible to adjust MANUALLY? I can't find the options to do so and if not, I might hire an excorcist to treat my computer.

I somewhat had the same problem, and it ended up being my video card.
Make sure that you're video card is updated with the latest driver

Type "Device Manager" in the start menu search, double click on "Display adapters" then right click on the video card you have, then click "Update Driver"
Dont forget to restart after/if it updates

Also, make sure your up to date on your windows updates

    Let me know what happens

    ALSO!!!
Make sure you have an Aero theme on. NOT a "Basic and High Contrast theme"

Another thing is, some programs can DISABLE aero themes, which will cause the preview windows over the icons on the task bar not to show.

So if you recently installed something, that may be the problem

thx tylar, I'll try your suggestions. I reinstalled my video driver, which was the latest available for the sony vaio posted on its site.. so it was up to date, but I did a few system restores which could have something to do with this all... I also recently had a "Display Driver Nvidia Windows Kernel Mode Driver Version xxx.xxx stopped responding and has successfully recovered." message when I closed my media player.

So we'll see what happens now I reinstalled it. Thx for the suggestion.
