Problems with installation custom theme on Windows 7

I tried to install new theme to Windows 7 by instructions found in folder with theme. NOTICE: This was not Aero theme, this was Windows 7 Basic theme but with different color schemes.

After installation - theme was shown, but I was not able to click on "My Computer" (like frozen icons), or enter in any folder. I was able only to start programs...

Now I will try to explain what I was doing during installation:

This is copy from instructions note:

FIRST OPEN THE FOLDER - UXTHEME PATCH
    RIGHT CLICK "UniversalThemePatcher-x86
    RUN AS ADMINISTRATOR
PRESS ALL OF THE "PATCH" BUTTONS
    RESTART YOUR PC

(Done by me on my computer without problems)

    PRESS "TAKEOWNERSHIP"
    Press YES to Install

(Done by me on my computer without problems)

    GO TO DIRECTORY
    C:\Windows\Resources\Themes\Aero
    Find aero.msstyles
    RIGHT CLICK - Take Ownership

(Done by me on my computer without problems)

Remember to apply the Theme Pack!
    (NOT DONE BY ME)

Now Replace The aero.msstyle file with the one of your choosing.
Log off. Log back in. If no changes restart.

(Done by me - problems noticed)

After that (fortunately) .RAR archive was on Desktop. In that archive I started again "UniversalThemePatcher-x86" and there I restored Patched files.

After restart - everything was normal, but now I have only classic theme (like on Windows 2000) and when I want to change another system just apply other wallpaper.

How to solve this problem with themes

P.S. Screenshot of files in folder:

Is there a slim chance you have a backup from before the problem that we can restore from?

    Hi!

If i understand well, you REPLACE the aero.msstyle...?
Please tell me where you learned to do that, i'll never go...
Just patch your system (UniversalthemePatcher) then COPY the theme you wish in the theme directory (C:\Windows\Resources\Themes), then double clic the "X.theme" file (X is the name of your theme) or go to the personalization section (right_clic on desktop, last line) and select it there...

Do you need the original "aero.msstyle"...? (you have to extract it, of course... )

I hope this helps... good luck!

    +1 ,Scoop pal !!

And MilAnno, as your computer is fixed, (I hope replacing the original Aero provided by Scoop will fix it), At first Backup Complete Computer - Create an Image Backup , so that it could be easily restored in need . Dont forget it.

And if you dont have the Wndows 7 installation DVD, Download Windows 7 System Recovery Discs — The NeoSmart Files , for your OS version .

Before doing these two, it is not really safe to mess with system files.

Probably the creator doesn't like default aero, and tried to remove it with the stuff he made.

But we should inform MilAnno and others that it is risky to replace system files, if you dont have a sound knowledge on system files replacing, and if you dont have a complete backup.

Hi MilAnno. The theme installation tutorial link given by Scoop ..... always follow it. And if sometimes any theme needs a different way to install, ask some experienced person to check it first. And , if needed, you may try this tool Windows Themes Installer : Install Windows 7 & Vista themes easily | The Windows Club
