    Change Files?

I have quite a few themes that come with system files that can be changed, such as explorer.exe and stuff. What is the best way to do this? I am specifically interested in knowing how to do this in Windows 64 bit.

To change the system files, first you have to take ownership of the file(s). You can download a shortcut here.

Then you right click the file and click take ownership. After that, rename the file. (For example, rename explorer.exe to explorer.exe.bak) Then copy the theme's explorer.exe in that folder.

After that, go into task manager and end the explorer.exe process. Then click file, new task, and type explorer.exe

    Tell me if it works

That... and proly the the sweetest little proggie around for mass renaming (and changing attributes) is FlashRenamer Mass rename multiple files, photos & mp3's with Flash Renamer! Batch rename since 1999!

Although Win 7 does have some very peculiar quirks when it comes to handling certain files (the notorious thumbs.whatever file for example)

    Hope that helps ??

I'll add that with x64 you usually have to change the file both in the System32 folder, and the SysWOW64 folder. Always make backups of whatever files you are changing. Make a new system restore point befor changing. If you can't boot to windows when you restart, you can boot to safe mode with command prompt and get to system restore by typing rstrui.exe. A Guy
