I was following the instructions in your 1st post, or thought I was, but any whole number * 1024 will be definitely divisible by 4. Not sure where my brain was when I was looking at this.

From the first post in this thread:
Note: Some readers and users of this tutorial got confused because the alignment numbers in a typical Windows7 installation are shown as:

    1024KB for the 100MB partition
101MB for the next partition - which is most likely the C partition

They think that 101MB is not divisible by 4 and that there must be a problem. But that is not so. If you convert 101MBs into KBs (multiply by 1024), then the number is divisible by 4 and the partition is aligned.

This is a new Lenovo Ideacenter K450 UEFI system with 128GB SanDisk SSD GPT drive.

I'd like to align it but not at the cost of a reinstall. If that's what it will take, I'll wait until I get a new 250Gb SSD then do a cleaninstall.

    Hi Rich,

I am back at my desk. For the alignment problem, here is what you do:

    1. Watch this video: Align Partition Easily with AOMEI Partition Assistant Free

    2. Download the program from here: Free Partition Manager - AOMEI Partition Assistant Standard

    3. In case you do not remember the steps, here are the 3 steps to take once you are in the AOMEI program:

Note: The operation may take a moment because it has to shove a lot of data around.

PS: I found the program courtesy of SIW2. He is a big fan of it - and he is right. It is a great program worth having.

Doesn't work. When I right click on Partition 1 of the SSD and select Advanced, the Align Partition option is greyed out, can't click on it.

Could it be because it's a GPT partition?

I think this is because it is the OS disk. You have to load the program from CD or a stick.

I'm willing to give it a try. How do I run it from a booted CD/DVD/flash drive? I have bootable flash drives for Vista, Windows 7, 8 and 8.1, Hirens and several other possibilities.

If we can get this to work, it would make a good addition to the updated tutorial

Edit: Also, only the first partition has it greyed out, okay for the rest.

Edit#2: Never mind, all I have to do is download the bootable ISO: Download Aomei Partition Assistant boot CD iso file.

Edit#3: Wrong again. That's only a demo version, Need to purchase to actually use it.

This iso files is demo version and in virtual mode, so it cannot proceed any partitioning operations. To proceed, you need to purchase the full version and within several minutes the full version download link will be sent to your email.
