Wasn't sure whether I should post as a new thread or just keep the discussion going here. The tutorial above would have appeared to be the solution to my problem, but it doesn't seem to be. Here's my pain: I have a piece of software (Corel SketchPad) that I have ran until now as "trial version" successfully from a regular user. Eventually, I have decided to register it and gave it a fresh install (after uninstalling the trail version). After reinstall, all of a sudden clicking on the exe file would not run my program. It wouldn't do anything. I reinstalled it, still nothing. I decided to run it as Admin and it worked fine and I could successfully register the product. Closed it and attempted again to run as a regular user - nothing happened again! So I figured it only runs now as Admin, which is VERY annoying. I attempted your solution described above, to no avail. As long as I attempt to run the "scheduled task" from a reg user and not Admin, it would not run. Any idea how to solve this (other than right-click "run as Admin" everytime I want to use that software)? Thanks!

Um, it seems to be an issue with the SketchPad software. They`ve put out a patch that does not work. Upon telling them that, they (Corel) directed me to a paid tech help line, which I refuse to call (don`t want to pay my money to fix someone else's badly written software). Apparently, need to edit some registry keys. Will see how that works. In the meantime, it still boggles me that the program would actually run fine in Admin, but wouldn`t even attempt to start in user.

doesnt work for me. I am a domain user and with admin rights. I double click the shortcut and all I get is a command prompt for a flash and nothing else.

    Hello Dreams,

I was not able to test this in a domain setup, so could be the issue.

Thank you for reporting your results.

Thanks for the very clear tutorial. When I run the program using this method and there are no other programs running it seems that the program does not get focus (close box is red). Is there a way to make the program windows get focus?

    Thanks!

    Paul,

I think it's something specific to the CCleaner program in this case. It does the same thing to me when running CCleaner normally without using this tutorial on it.

Thanks Shawn for this excellent very thorough tutorial.
I noticed it similarly also posted HERE dated 06-22-2008 (before yours was)
I also notice that someone (info HERE) created a VBScript to bypass UAC, not sure if you care to comment on this too?

I still like your guide though, because its very clear and simple to follow.
I have copied the link down in case I ever get Windows 7 (one of these days!)

    :)
